Role of Oversight Audit in Public Awareness

Worldwide, Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) are playing the fundamental and an important role in making the public officials answerable to its citizens and holding them accountable for their actions. Providentially, the Supreme Audit Office (SAO) of Afghanistan is performing a significant role in informing the citizens through execution of the oversight audits of the public offices, monitoring their actions, compiling audit reports and subsequently publishing the audit reports via social media to inform the citizens and to hold the public officials responsible.

In addition, the Afghan citizens can register their complaints and the shortcomings, practically experienced / faced by them in the public institutions- through an online complaint registration form and or physical complaint box, established by the Supreme Audit Office (SAO) so that SAO can review those complaints then and publish the audit findings and outcomes to appropriately inform the citizens through social media.
